Wedding Trends for 2013
Advice from industry experts
With 2013 just around the corner we are starting to see hints and ideas of what wedding trends are going to be big in the next year. We have been talking to some industry experts and found their views on what is going to be big for weddings in 2013.
The Flowers — Interflora Vera Wang
Morgan Nuth, from Rushes florist in London is one of the first specialist florists accredited to deliver the new Vera Wang Wedding Collection by Interflora that is launching across Ireland and the UK. He is seeing some very definite trends becoming evident for this coming Winter and also Spring Summer 2013:
“There are some clear wedding flower themes emerging for next Spring/Summer season. The first is colour and lots of it. Vibrant yellows, oranges and limes appear to be very much in demand and using scented varieties if at all possible. Anemones, Freesias and Hyacinths are sure to be topping the polls. And although grooms still love the classic rose for a buttonhole, we are seeing much more of a single flower theme dominating the entire wedding. That gives real continuity of colour and design throughout the day and a good florist will be able to take any wedding customer through that process and advise them on the right flower choice. The Interflora Vera Wang Wedding consultation offers the ideal bespoke service for these brides.”
The Dress — Sassi Holford
Known in the bridal industry for creating beautiful classic designs with a contemporary edge, designer Sassi Holford shares her thoughts on wedding dress trends for 2013:
“Next year is looking classically elegant and we’ll see a greater number of sleeved designs. Fitted bodices will create more of an impact with dramatic skirt shapes playing a very important part: fit with a very full flare, fishtail and ball gown — all these silhouettes emphasise the beauty of the female figure.
Chosen fabrics will be more romantic than ever with stunning appliqué and embroidery detail that merges with eclectic layering.”
The Hair — Richard Ward
Celebrity hairdresser Richard Ward has had a host of high profile clients, from Pippa Middleton right through to Ivana Trump. Richard shares with us his views on bridal hair for 2013 weddings:
“A half up, half down style will be prominent for 2013 as it’s so versatile. This seems to have become a real staple for brides — it flatters most face shapes because it retracts width from around the potentially widest part of the face but gives length to elongate and slim the face. A half-chignon translates well into evening too and can be more formal for the ceremony by adding a veil.”
The Make-up — Cassie Lomas, Bourjois
Why not have your bridal makeup as your something blue? Industry leading makeup artist Cassie Lomas shares her colour predictions for bridal make-up in 2014. Cassie predicts subtle make-up with a pop of aqua blue will be popular, as seen on the Clements Ribeiro catwalk at London Fashion week.
To create the look with Bourjois products Cassie explains: “I wanted to create the perfect retro shade of powder blue shadow. For this I mixed two Bourjois products together — a creamy Metallise eyeliner pencil in shade Bleu Clinquant Metallise with a little Touche Healthy Mix Brush Concealer into the colour on the back on your hand before smudging the shade across the eyelids.”
