St Patrick's Day Wedding Ideas
Green, lucky, symbolic & Irish!
If you are planning a St Patrick’s Day wedding, why not make the most of this lucky day and your Irish heritage. There are so many ways to incorporate the wonderful Irish traditions and special day in to your wedding affair, here are just a few that may inspire you:
Colours
First thing that comes to mind is the colour green. With so many different shades from classic olive to springtime lime, from fresh clover to cool jade you can choose the perfect hue to fit your theme and venue whilst incorporating the time of year! Don’t be afraid of mixing different shades of green and speak to professionals like florists, wedding planners and wedding decorators who know what colours work well together. Your Bridesmaids dresses are a perfect way to show the wedding colours. Again, look at different shades and consider hair colour and skin tone etc. A good bridal assistant will advise you on this detail.
Stationery
Your St Patrick’s Day theme can start with your invites, either by having the well known clover as part of the design or by adding a touch of green to the invite in a more subtle way. Another great favourite for Irish invites is the Celtic knot or cross. This can be the background of your stationery with the wording written on top. Your colour scheme and design can be carried through to your place cards, menu and order of service too. And don’t forget your table plan and table name cards!
Flowers
Again you may want to incorporate your shades of green here and a good florist will help you with colours, flowers and designs. This can continue through to your floral arrangements in the church, venue and buttonholes. A lovely way to compliment your wedding colours and remaining with the St Patrick’s Day theme is to have your Flower Girls carry little flower baskets with green ribbon tied around it and a shamrock gem or other Irish symbol decorating it.
Favours & Décor
You can have plenty of fun with your favours and wedding decorations — green napkins, shamrock candles and place card holders, tasteful olive green boxes with green foiled covered chocolate contents, personalised tinned mints and box with the Love Knot design on top, shamrock chocolate wedding favours in green organza bags, good luck clover garden sprinkles, green scatter gems, clover confetti... the list is endless! Just be sure to consider your colour scheme, personalities, budget and theme!
Food
Why not go with good Irish fare such as Irish stew, boxty, bacon and cabbage or coddle followed by apple amber, Irish poached pears or bread pudding. You can wash it down with good old Irish ale, keeping to your theme from start to finish! Or for something a little lighter, have personalised wine labels printed with your colour and theme incorporated on the label.
Wedding Music
Traditional Irish music is ideal for your Irish wedding! With the romantic ballads and beautiful instrumentals, this is another perfect touch for your St Patrick’s themed wedding!
There are lots of ways to have your perfect St Patrick’s Day wedding day! Consider what you want from it, do your research, be creative and have fun!
