Christmas, the most wonderful time of the year! It’s the time of year for love, romance and good spirits! What a perfect time to have a wedding! When the decision has been made to have a festive wedding, then planning the event is easier than you think! With the theme taken care of, the rest of the wedding arrangements can follow easily.

Take a look at some tips and ideas for a fabulous Christmas Wedding that everyone will enjoy!

Festive Colours

Red and green are the colours we usually associate Christmas with. However, don’t forget these other colours when planning your event: burgundy, dark green, white, ivory, red, gold, silver, ice blue and tartan!

Festive Invites

Your invites can also echo the season and theme of your wedding. Bringing in the colours this early on will prepare and entice your guests and will set the scene for the up and coming happy event!

Consider tartan ribbons if you’re going for warm colours or silver snowflakes on white card for a crisp fresh feel. How about popping some small silver heart confetti inside the invitation or little snowflake sparkles; a fun way to build on the festive theme!

Bear in mind the time of year for the special day and remember that some people take holidays over the Christmas period. Therefore, you’ll want to post your invites a bit earlier to allow for this — say around 12-14 weeks before the event. It may also be an idea to send out ‘save the date’ cards in addition. This will ensure the people you want to share your day with you will be there!

Bridal Wear

If you don’t want your dress to be too different, it needn’t be. Choose one that you fall in love with; you can add the festive feel with a velvet cape or muff. Or, if you want to embrace the season, you can opt for a gown that has a splash or more of festive colour and fabric!

Your bridesmaids can follow your lead with capes or muffs and accessorise with twinkly gems for added sparkle!

Décor and Accessories

There are many fun things you can do to add Christmas sparkle to your day and continue the theme throughout.

For church services you can dress the hall with garlands and candles. And how about scattering of deep red rose petals along the church aisle — a lovely romantic touch!

Christmas baubles on mini trees for centre pieces are very effective and fun and the tableware can follow suit; how about filled Christmas Crackers with the guests name on it which will serve not only as a place card but a fun favour too! A bottle of Irish whiskey for the men always goes down a treat and is a lovely winter warmer!

At this time of year, flowers can be expensive so consider the season and colours and go with what is available at the time of year. A good florist will work with you to create a beautiful arrangement perfect for your theme.

Festive Wedding Cake

Another fun way to continue the Christmas feel is to be creative with your cake! Your wedding cake is one of the most photographed wedding features on your big day, so make it stand out!

How about having a ‘bûche noël’, we know it as a Yule Log! Or if you want a tier cake, have each tier created to look like individually wrapped parcels! Fun and very effective! If white is your main colour on the cake, dress it with sprigs of ivy, real or edible, or holly cascading down each layer.

Individual Christmas puddings or mince pies are a perfect Christmas Wedding dessert!

Once your theme and colours have been chosen, you can have fun creating the perfect Christmas Wedding Day!
